Meet the Team: David Lawton https://fluency.mcsdh.com/2022/09/06/meet-the-team-david-lawton/ Tue, 06 Sep 2022 16:01:47 +0000 https://fluency.mcsdh.com/?p=5905

Meet The Team: David Lawton

In the first edition of our ‘Meet the Team’ series, we catch up with our Head of Data Science, David Lawton

2021_09_14_Fluency_Portraits_David_Lawton_0065_F1_Web

"The storytelling side of data really appealed to me because it felt so much more tangible than just speculating about the impact of economic policy. I really like the firm answers and the challenge of finding a story in a huge dataset."

- David Lawton

What inspired you to go into data science, and where did you begin?

I originally did a Masters in Economics and Trade Policy and then got a job in that field. That’s when I realised I was far happier working with numbers than with the policy side of things, I much preferred the hard world of data than the softer world of strategy and politics. I’d never really used Excel before so that’s where it all started for me. I soon discovered VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), which I used to automate a lot of processes at the company and that’s when I first started coding. I realised I really enjoyed that, so ended up taking a course in R and that’s when it all clicked. The storytelling side of data really appealed to me because it felt so much more tangible than just speculating about the impact of economic policy. I really like the firm answers and the challenge of finding a story in a huge dataset, and thinking creatively about how you can find that story.

What are you working on currently? What are you enjoying most about it?

I’m currently working on an econometrics project, helping our client understand the return on investment from marketing to make a business case to significantly increase their current levels. This involved taking a deep dive into spend per channel and how they differ, then building this up into a business model with plenty of controls and caveats built in to enable us to forecast the impact of increasing spend to unprecedented levels.

We’ve also recently completed work on Fluency’s ‘Metaverse Valuation Tool’ which helps brands to size their financial revenue opportunity in the metaverse.  Here we used a two-pronged approach, firstly from the bottom-up where we look at individuals in the market and understand their propensity to participate in the market, which we then slowly ladder up to evaluate the whole market value. Next, we performed a top-down approach, where we look at data on the current market value of the metaverse, combine it with data from our $1mil+ stack to split it out into actionable segments. The two approaches then allow us to produce a middle-ground range to inform the final opportunity size for the brand. This process involved a lot of Excel modelling to allow the client to fully interact with the end-tool and allow for adjustable assumptions within this too.

The team are also working on an AI project that can predict the performance of social media posts. Here we are tapping into a wide range of cutting-edge AIs to really get under the skin of what matters on social media.

What would you say has been the biggest development in data science in the past 5 years?

Generalisable models have been a huge development in data science over the past few years. They are enabling us to do things like the zero-shot learning. It’s a significant breakthrough when models go from being trained for a very specific single use case to being so good they develop a multitude of use cases. It provides us with so much more flexibility. If you want to go and tag a load of text for some really obscure things like bike parts for example, you can go ahead and do that without having to build an AI model from scratch. I think things like generalisable models are one of the main advancements in AI that’s helped it go from something quite niche to a powerful tool with relevance in everyday applications.

Where do you see the world of data science going in the next 5 years?

There seems to be a lot of exciting developments taking place in things like GPT and being able to text generate. This would likely fit into smart-homes very well, making Google, Alexa and Siri much more conversational then they currently are.

The area I’m personally hoping will make big progress is explainability. Currently a lot of AIs operate as a ‘black box’, where it can tell that the object in an image is either a dog but is not able to explain why, since it’s such an intricate machine. Explainability is trying to push away from this ambiguity. The SHAP values method is an exciting recent development in the area: it takes an AI and uses cooperative game theory to try and figure out the mechanics hidden in the model and is able to clearly describe how it works to humans. A lot of the fear behind AI is attributed to the fact we find it difficult to explain properly, so I think there should definitely be a push in making AI more understandable.

Do you have any advice for those thinking about getting a career in data science?

The advice I always give to those thinking about getting into data science is that you should make sure it’s a real passion of yours. If you’re not genuinely interested and you’re just doing it to try and get a better salary or because it’s job security etc., you’re unlikely to do brilliantly even if you’ve got a good mathematical brain. If I look at the stuff I use on a day-to-day basis now, maybe 60% of it didn’t exist five years ago. If you haven’t got that passion and you’re not constantly reading up on new developments, you’re just going to fall behind.

To round off, what fictional character would you say you relate to the most? What traits do you share?

I’m going to have to go with Hobbes from Calvin and Hobbes. He’s sarcastic and a bit of a sceptic, but ultimately willing to give new things a go and see what happens!

The Evolution of Chess AI https://fluency.mcsdh.com/2022/09/01/the-evolution-of-chess-ai/ Thu, 01 Sep 2022 15:17:33 +0000 https://fluency.mcsdh.com/?p=5873

The Evolution of Chess AI

This week 50 years ago, Bobby Fischer defeated Boris Spassky to become the Chess World Champion in one of the most famous series of matches in the history of game. To celebrate this anniversary, Fluency explores how the 1,500-year-old-game has pioneered research in Artificial Intelligence and how chess engines have developed since their inception in the 1940s.

randy-fath-h1ShPXfHbTw-unsplash

Chess is regarded by many as the ultimate game of strategy. The brutal and unforgiving sport requires near-perfect execution at the top level to achieve victory, with Grandmasters having to evaluate dozens of positions before making a move. A study by Robert Sapolsky, Professor of neurology and neurosurgery at Stanford University has shown that Grandmasters can burn up to 6,000 calories a day over the course of an intense, multi-day tournament (ESPN), demonstrating the extreme mental stress these players experience.

The depth of thinking required in chess provided great interest to Alan Turing, the father of artificial intelligence. Having famously created the “Bombe” computer during World War II, capable of decrypting an enigma message every two minutes, Turing was acutely aware of the potential computers had in solving complex problems. Chess was no exception.

The First Chess Engine

In 1946, Turing began his research into the first chess program which was based off the following principles:

  1. Each piece had a ‘value’ (for example, Pawn = 1, Bishop = 3.5, Rook = 5)
  2. Every possible move and countermove would be examined
  3. Each position generated would be evaluated based on the value of the pieces that each player held. The move that gained the most ‘value’ for a player would be selected
Since during the opening phase of a game most positions would have the same value, Turing also introduced some positional criteria to the program’s evaluation system.

Dr Dietrich Prinz implemented this program into the Ferranti Mark 1 in 1951, making one of the first computer games in history. Despite the memory limitations of the Ferranti, the program could solve ‘mate-in-two’ problems in 15-20 minutes, brute-forcing its way through the thousands of possible moves until the checkmate sequence was found.

The Minimax Algorithm and its Limitations

The Minimax Algorithm is used throughout the world of decision making, being at the core of philosophy, statistics and even warfare. The whole concept of the algorithm is to discover which decision will generate the smallest possible loss along with the greatest minimum gain. This is achieved by evaluating all possible sequences of moves which creates what computer scientists call a ‘search-tree’.

Minimax is perfectly suited to pair with Turing’s program, but as previously discussed, chess is an extremely complex game with more possible moves than there are grains of sand on all the beaches of the world. Computers (at least right now) simply aren’t capable of this level of analysis, so how were computer scientists able to mitigate the extreme computational load required by engines?

Pruning the Tree

In 1921 the great Cuban Grandmaster José Raúl Capablanca was asked by an aspiring chess player how many moves he looked ahead, to which he jokingly responded “Only one, but it’s always the right one!”

Despite downplaying the extent of his calculations, this quote highlights the importance of intuition and instinct in chess. With years of experience, players like Capablanca are able to find the best moves without having to analyse thousands, like the computers do, giving them a critical advantage. Minimising the number of positions evaluated the chess engine, or “pruning the tree” became the next key area of research for computer scientists, and this remains a fundamental part of artificial intelligence to this day.

This was eventually achieved by teaching engines only the stronger opening sequences of moves in the game, as well as training it to recognise patterns on the board described by Grandmasters to be positionally advantageous (this would include instances where the enemy king is under threat, leading to a potential checkmate). These improvements to the chess engine combined with advances in computational power led to the first victory of a machine in a competitive tournament setting, achieved by the Mac Hack program in 1967.

A machine will always remain a machine, that is to say a tool to help the player work and prepare. Never shall I be beaten by a machine! Never will a program be invented that surpasses human intelligence.

Garry Kasparov, World Chess Champion, 1984 – 2005

Crazy Bird

Over the next 30 years, further advancements in computational power led the chess engine to be a genuine force to be reckoned with. In 1979, Ken Thompson (creator of the programming language B) developed the machine Belle, the first chess engine to have a master-level FIDE rating of 2150. But despite the machine now being able to analyse over 5,000 positions a second, it was still unable to compete with Grandmasters, further demonstrating the power of human intuition. However, this all changed in the 90s with the help of the computer science prodigy Feng-hsiung Hsu, nicknamed ‘Crazy Bird’ by his peers due to his eccentricity.

Hsu was one of the brilliant minds behind the IBM chess supercomputer Deep Blue, which famously defeated one of the greatest player in the game’s history, Garry Kasparov in a six-match series in 1997. The machine could analyse approximately 200 million positions a second and contained a highly detailed library of chess opening theory. At this point, the human brain was simply unable to compete with the machine, and chess engines have been dominating Grandmasters ever since.

The Rebirth of the Chess Engine

By the 2010s, it had been clearly established that the human was no match for the chess engine, so why were we still teaching them? At this point the computer was powerful enough to mimic the thinking process of the human brain via the use of neural networks, and Google applied this technique in the AlphaZero engine. The machine required absolutely no training from humans, and after nine hours and 44 million games with itself, it thrashed the previously dominant engine Stockfish 9 in a 100-game series (28 wins, 72 draws, 0 losses). This was a ground-breaking moment in artificial intelligence, demonstrating the power of generalised reinforcement-learning in problem solving.

As a result of the lack of human input in its training, AlphaZero developed a totally original style of play, combining elements of unconventional post-modern opening theory with exciting piece sacrifices reminiscent the romantic era of chess in the 1800s, placing more of an emphasis on positional play than nature of the pieces of the board. Its unusual and ruthless style can also be seen in the Asian strategy games Go and Shogi.

Conclusions

Artificial intelligence has completely changed the way that chess is played. With the help of chess engines, Grandmasters are now able to plan prepare for their games in extreme depth, sometimes memorising up to 15-20 moves of their openings. Although some chess commentators worry that this extreme perfectionism can make top level gameplay tedious, AlphaZero proves that however highly polished chess gets, AI can still blow the sport wide open.

A Dive into Gen Z’s Current Attitudes towards Sustainability https://fluency.mcsdh.com/2022/08/12/a-dive-into-gen-zs-current-attitudes-towards-sustainability/ Fri, 12 Aug 2022 10:10:10 +0000 https://fluency.mcsdh.com/?p=5741

To celebrate International Youth Day, we take a dive into how Gen Zs have adapted to the cost of living crisis and how their environmentally friendly habits have changed.

mika-baumeister-bnuFRiQDYIM-unsplash

Gen Zs (born between 1997 and 2012) are unsurprisingly the demographic most interested in sustainability, with half in the UK considering themselves as environmentalists compared to the 35% national average (YouGov, 2022).

However, these attitudes are put into practice in their home-life much less than the rest of the country. Less than a quarter will sort their waste or reduce their heating, whereas 4 in 10 on average in the UK will (YouGov, 2022). Even though Gen Zs show a genuine concern for the environment, there is a surprising lack of sustainable practices taking place in their home-lives. Why is this the case?

One of the main opinions from Gen Zs is that these individual actions are insignificant when compared to the damage that corporations and governments cause, the majority believing that energy companies don’t care about the environment (YouGov, 2022). With the vote on the opening of the first British coal mine in 30 years taking place next week and the news that the world’s top 100 companies are responsible for 71% of global emissions (The Guardian), this mindset is certainly understandable.

anna-sullivan-pFhkBHJCuIw-unsplash
  • 41% of 16–18-year-olds describe their financial situation as insecure, significantly more than the national average (GWI, 2022).
  • Over 6 in 10 Gen Zs don’t mind paying extra for sustainable goods
  • 1/3 of 16-24 year olds have a Depop account (TechCrunch)

Nevertheless, sustainable products still appeal greatly to Gen Zs, with 3 in 4 saying that it makes a difference in retail and 65% stating they don’t mind paying extra (YouGov, 2022). There is a clear demand for environmentally friendly goods, but retailers must make sure they show proof of sustainability in order to maximise consumer engagement. It is vital that the brand isn’t simply virtue signalling or ‘greenwashing’, as consumers have become increasingly distrustful of companies, with less than a fifth trusting a brand’s sustainability claims (Compare Ethics).

Further proof of Gen-Zs high interest in sustainable retail can be seen in the resale market. Due to the previously mentioned financial struggles and increased awareness of the climate crisis post-pandemic, cheaper and more sustainable fashion options have entered the mainstream. Websites like Depop and Vinted have seen extreme growth over the past few years, with Depop’s app users in the UK more than doubling over the pandemic (businessofapps.com) . This upwards trajectory in thrifting is not expected to falter: according to a study by ThredUp, the resale market is predicted to double in the next 5 years, reaching $70 billion.

Worried about Stagflation? Here’s how Brand Desire can help https://fluency.mcsdh.com/2022/07/25/worried-about-stagflation-heres-how-brand-desire-can-help/ Mon, 25 Jul 2022 11:12:24 +0000 https://fluency.mcsdh.com/?p=5693

The future of brand-building needs solutions that can help you adapt to macroeconomic turbulence with speed and success.

By leveraging the Brand Desire Engine as a strategic tool, you can not only soften the blow from critical global challenges like stagflation, but also intelligently reveal how to enhance your brand’s revenue.

Let’s set the scene

Brands are facing endless macroeconomic challenges. Finding ways to make sense of them is no longer a nice to have. With increasing levels of uncertainty and the threat of a recession, it’s a matter of survival.
While the context isn’t improving, one thing has changed for the better: the tools we have to make sense of it.

The Problem

Global economic pressure has created significant challenges for brands, who cannot produce goods and services as cost effectively. The impact?
  • Less is being produced, at a higher cost
  • Fewer consumers as the new prices discourage or exclude them from buying
  • Supply contracts and brands’ revenues drop

5

A Desirable Solution

Boosting customer demand can mitigate the impact of increased running costs. That’s where brand desire comes in, by pinpointing what consumers want and optimising for those key drivers, a brand can sell more at a higher price (based on rising costs, and justified by demand).
Strategic investment in brand desire means happier consumers and a strong bottom line.

7

Fixing Fixed Supply

With the economic system being severely stress-tested with sociopolitical issues, the war in Ukraine, ESG concerns etc., supply chains are struggling. Leveraging brand desire can help generate margin even when supply is fixed. If demand goes up, so can prices – leading to enhanced revenues for the same quantity of goods.

Brand Desire is a Critical Tool

Experts from Clear and Fluency teamed up to create an AI-powered engine and precision consulting framework. The result is critical business insights including:
  • real time drivers of brand desire
  • where your brand is under-leveraged
  • the revenue opportunities for each desire driver
  • how to pivot for peak performance

Start Future-Proofing your Brand

Want to weather macroeconomic storms by giving consumers exactly what they need?

The Drum: Can we quantify desire? Under the hood of M&C Saatchi’s brand desire engine https://fluency.mcsdh.com/2022/07/22/the-drum-can-we-quantify-desire-under-the-hood-of-mc-saatchis-brand-desire-engine/ Fri, 22 Jul 2022 12:29:00 +0000 https://fluency.mcsdh.com/?p=5685

Tim Spencer, CEO of Fluency and Rhonda Hiatt, CTO of Clear are interviewed by The Drum on the power of the new ‘Brand Desire Engine’.

Data-backed marketers have made serious strides in the last couple of decades in figuring out what people desire (and why, and how much). We sat down with two people who claim to be further along on that quest than most: the team behind M&C Saatchi’s ‘brand desire engine.’

No prizes for this level of insight, but marketing is about getting people to buy (or in some cases do) stuff. Between the messaging and the action is the mysterious realm of wanting: desire.

If you could know what desire is, what makes it tick and how to measure it, that’d be a useful tool. That’s why brands and agencies are willing to pump so many resources into human understanding labs, psychometric research and a raft of qualitative and quantitative techniques to peel back the musty curtain that obscures the reality of want.

Earlier this year, M&C Saatchi unveiled its new tentpole desire play: the ‘brand desire engine’. Working on the confluence of eight Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms, using psycholinguistics and machine learning (ML) and a billion (and growing) rows of data, the pitch is that it will allow chief marketers to pinpoint how desire for its brand shifts, and in response to what.

All of this data is out there telling us what the brand is like, what it’s about, what’s good about it, what’s not so good about it. The problem is that it’s not being tapped; it’s not being derived properly.

Tim Spencer, Fluency CEO and Co-founder  – The Drum

But what does that really mean? How, really, can anyone demystify desire? We spent some time with two leaders from the M&C agencies behind the engine: Rhonda Hiatt, Chief Strategy Officer at strategy arm Clear; and Tim Spencer, Chief Executive Officer at data specialists Fluency.

The greatest survey

Clear has published brand desire rankings for years; in the past those rankings were decided by a consumer survey. While that methodology was, according to Hiatt, “robust” and “sophisticated”, its replacement tells an interesting story about big data’s power in the modern marketing industry. Clients, she says, were starting to glean insights about the desirability of their brands from large data sources, but those sources weren’t joined up and might even tell conflicting stories. The brand desire engine is built around the goal of metabolising all that data into a clear understanding of desire.

“We thought, there has to be a better way than just surveying a lot of people,” says Hiatt. “We’re not saying surveying isn’t a great tool. It’s absolutely part of our methodology here; it’s still hugely helpful and insightful. But we wanted to broaden that perspective and be more diligent with the data.

The survey is a hundred-year old methodology, but, says Spencer, “the brand in 2022 is in a very different position to where we were in 1920 … We have huge datasets wrapping around the entire world, which we are codifying for the first time. We dont have to ask someone what they think or feel; we can go on to Twitter, we can look on search engines, we can get a strong point of view from review sites. All of this data is out there telling us what that brand is like, what it’s about, what’s good about it, what’s not so good about it. The problem is that it’s not being tapped; it’s not being derived properly.”

Those data streams are many: M&C, they tell us, buys in almost £1m of data off-the-shelf from the likes of YouGov, Kantar and Google; it also feeds in reams of publicly-available data, and clients can add first-party data of their own. Set up at launch to spit out results for 200 top brands, and aiming to grow to map out “all brands that we can get good sizeable data on” (perhaps 5,000), they can feed in those data sources for other clients as they come along.

The Engine leverages the power of eight AIs to unpick what drives brand desire

M&C Saatchi Growth and data strategy consultancies, Clear and Fluency, were responsible for building the Brand Desire Engine.

Full Article: Campaign Live

M&C Saatchi Group’s growth and data strategy consultancies, Clear and Fluency, have harnessed the power of AI to analyse what drives brand desire with the Brand Desire Engine.

Through psycholinguistic analysis and machine learning, the tool uses eight AIs and more than a billion data points to identify why brands grow and how they grow.

It then uses publicly available performance data to evaluate brands’ historic performance and their commercial potential.

The Engine means chief marketing officers can identify the unique drivers of brand desire as they emerge in the behaviour of consumers in real-time. With this knowledge, they can devise informed strategies that will reach the brand’s full potential.

“Brand desire is the most powerful driver we have in building both brand and commercial value,” Rhonda Hiatt, chief strategy officer at Clear M&C Saatchi, explained.

She continued: “We no longer have to rely on gut, guess, or less than ideal survey sample sizes to tell us how to build brand desire.

Significant advances in machine learning and AI are helping us to interpret and leverage this data in ways that simply haven’t been possible until now

Tim Spencer, Founder & Chief Strategy Officer, Fluency M&C Saatchi

“Instead, we just need to capture the information the whole world is putting out every day and synthesise it into something clear, commercial, and actionable. This is a game-changer that allows us to create adaptive brand strategies that evolve as quickly as desire – and the world around us – shifts.”

Tim Spencer, co-founder and chief strategy officer at Fluency M&C Saatchi, said the tool was an exciting example of how data can be used to identify growth opportunities for brands.

“Every interaction and transaction generates new data that gives us true insight into not only what people think they are doing, but how they are actually behaving,” he said.

“Brands not only exist in our shared consciousness, but are being coded at enormous scale, and significant advances in machine learning and AI are helping us to interpret and leverage this data in ways that simply haven’t been possible until now.

“We’re excited to see what some of the world’s most creative business leaders can do with the Brand Desire Engine.”

Fluency: Why Data Diversity has an important role to play in driving inclusion https://fluency.mcsdh.com/2022/01/08/data-diversity-artificial-intelligence-inclusion/ Sat, 08 Jan 2022 10:26:00 +0000 https://remake.codeless.co/?p=206

Fluency’s view is that data diversity will drive better inclusion because it weeds out the unconscious bias that we have as human beings

Fluency M&C Saatchi recently offered thoughts to Barclays touching on the topic of data diversity.

Why Data Diversity?

Diversity has only truly come into focus in recent years, triggered by unacceptable global headline news and unsavoury experiences being shared with shocked audiences in many parts of the world.

In a world where social media is part of daily lives, many of us are exposed to richness and diversity on a scale never known before, offering endless benefit and opportunity. There are also less positive responses to diversity which are well-publicised – including the risks of turning our backs, living in bubbles, choosing to reject realities that do not suit.

At Fluency, we talk about data diversity. We are, of course, aware and careful not to cheapen the meaning and importance of the diversity discussion. Diversity, though, touches on data in important ways, and can help deliver important lesions to those who work with data at any level.

Our view is that data diversity will drive better inclusion because it helps weed out the unconscious biases that we have as human beings

Fluency, in Building Brands Better – Barclays

First, much has now been written about whether some of the newly launched AIs are really capable of understanding diversity – and the dangers that this can bring to decision-makers who are relying on them. We are in agreement that this needs close consideration. Every use of AI should be considerate not only of what we are learning – however powerful – but also of what might be being missed, and why. At Fluency we think of insight very much as a science, something that should be endlessly challenged, questioned, deconstructed.

Second, we must also be ready to accept that some new AIs offer scale, depth and speed of discovery that could only be dreamed of just a few years ago. We are still regularly surprised and delighted by the new opportunities we uncover here at Fluency – and highly conscious that, even if 10 people are working on a project, our collective lived experiences are not even the tiniest fraction of the scale of data we are working with, let alone hope to understand without the help of machines. Fluency ‘lean in’ to this new capability as a tool wisely. We believe that we should expect AIs to teach us as much as is possible about a large spectrum of thinking that exists out in the world. Through rational, scaled and data-diverse AI assisted approaches, we can expect to learn new things about ourselves and each other and start to uncover more of what previously lay impenetrable to human capacity alone.

Third, many of society’s best efforts to achieve diversity depend on bringing together difference and variety wherever possible. This is exactly what we do at Fluency, with when it comes to the data we expect and hope to learn so much from. We do not think decision-makers should be relying on any one type of data to understand the world around them.

We construct solutions that are inherently diverse in input; whether combining behavioural data, claimed data, written data, audio or image data, our objective is always to weed out the unconscious biases that narrow or solo data sets or AIs can bring.

When we hope to learn new things about humans, consumers, markets – it is through these combinations that we can best hope to reveal our world’s many truths and lived experiences.

This is what we mean by data diversity.

Fluency: To build Intelligent Brands, data is both the foundation and the fuel https://fluency.mcsdh.com/2021/09/02/fluency-building-intelligent-brands-with-data-tech/ Thu, 02 Sep 2021 12:07:21 +0000 https://fluency.mcsdh.com/?p=4646

Fluency’s view is that brands are gradually becoming more ‘cognitive’, and this is the path to creating Intelligent Brands. Data lies at the heart of this story.

Entrepreneurial brand leaders pursuing data fluency are really already pioneering the next generation of Intelligent Brands, that are fit and ready for an ever-changing future.

Fluency M&C Saatchi describes a world at our doorstep

For those of us in marketing with what might be described as ‘geekish tendencies’, the world of cognitive sciences presents significant interest.

Encompassing diverse disciplines including artificial intelligence, psychology, anthropology, and many more, cognitive sciences is a complex field where significant work is under way to bring life-like sentience to objects and entities.

In one small, but significant step, cognitive sciences will come to impact entities that we understand very well: brands.

Brand management at the start of the 2020s remains a clunky pursuit, with a greater degree of hope built into decision-making than is desirable or perhaps necessary.

Cognitive, Intelligent Brands mean change is something you thrive on, you evolve with and that you can flourish within. This isn’t futurology. It’s here right now. And data fluency is the foundation of intelligent brands. It will underpin how they develop and tie together new and existing technologies.

Tim Spencer – CSO Fluency

Building Intelligent Brands will change how brand management is performed on a daily basis. Imagine a brand with heightened capabilities to sense or feel its environment; self-perception & self awareness to better judge its interactions and create audience relationships with empathy and understanding, mutuality and reward; the ability to learn and draw on experience to offer more dynamic customer partnerships; the ability to embrace change in order to learn and evolve – and not only to survive in market, but to flourish.

It’s a world of dynamic responsiveness to a brand’s ecosystems, with effortless data-driven decision-making built in.

At Fluency, we focus on helping brands to connect data, insight and strategy in a more fluent way. Our studies have shown that data fluency offers significant and immediate benefit to bottom line growth, but there is something else it brings that will excite brand leaders. The entrepreneurial leaders with a vision for data fluency will not only drive new revenue growth, they are also building brands that are ready for the future because the journey to data fluency is the very foundation on which creating Intelligence Brands will stand, those that are fit and ready for whatever is coming.

This is not futurology. Data fluency is already producing brands with early cognitive skills. Data and technology are already powering the creation of highly attuned creative, dynamic decisioning, and ‘always on’ interaction.

If you are interested in building Intelligent Brands, we’d love to chat and partner you on your journey.
